“I’m not really interested in being in the photos myself, I just want some lovely pictures of the children”…..
Do you know how often I hear that phrase? I would say approx 90% of the time that is the opening line of my conversations with parents when they call to discuss their photo sessions. Isn’t that sad.
As adults we have so many hang ups and anxieties about being in front of the lens that they prevent us from being available to exist in these timeless images that our children will cherish for the rest of their lives.
The beauty of children is that they love you know matter what you look like… they don’t care if you haven’t done your hair, or you are carrying a few extra pounds.
As a photographer I am always behind my lens and I have to remind myself that I must make a real effort to get in my images with and without my children.
One day your children will look for photographs of you and what they find will be treasure.
So don’t be surprised when I say to you in your photo session, ‘hey come over here and get in the shot’… believe me when I say it will be worth it.
