When I was one I had just begun
When I was two I was nearly new
When I was three I was hardly me
When I was four I was not much more
When I was five I was just alive
But now I am six, I’m as clever as clever;
So I think I’ll be six now for ever and ever.
….And don’t we feel clever….. Our darling Clementine arrived 4 weeks ago today…
I have waited 9 and a bit months to post this blog! Dreaming of what I would say, would it be the story I wanted to tell or would be completely different? Well…..I wont post a full blown birth story but suffice to say it was everything I planned it to be and more.
This time around I was determined to take more control over the whole experience and as this was going to be my last baby I wanted to end on a high note so to speak.. Weeks before I had booked a home birth with the community midwives, we set up a birth pool in the lounge, I bought beautiful smelling candles, I had gentle music at the ready…and as a bonus Wimbledon just happened to be on for background entertainment!
In the early hours of July 1st I had my first proper contractions and at 6.33pm under the supervision of 3 fabulous midwives I delivered my beautiful daughter in the pool……It was truly the most amazing experience, and I cant recommend a home birth enough. Yes it hurt… birth is painful, there is no getting away from that, but after 3 previous births I was more than aware (quietly freaking out too!) of what was involved so that was not my focus or my lasting memory. It was so relaxed…. I felt comfortable, safe and in control and there is nothing better than getting into your own bed with a beautiful newborn baby whilst you are brought tea and toast.
Of course I have barely put my camera down since she made her entrance…I have been anxious to capture all those special moments and really treasure every second, she is already changing and I know being the youngest of four she is not likely to want to stay small… so here are a few snaps from her first few days with us. Believe me there will be plenty more to come!
